Kahuna Kupuna Surf Contest returns to Pacifica for the 15th year!

posted Jun 20, 2014, 8:30 PM by PEF Pacifica
The 15th Annual Kahuna Kupuna benefit surf contest will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, California from 8 am to 5 pm.

The Kahuna Kupuna is the only surf contest in the world that is specifically designed to honor the more experienced surfers (in age) among us! Kahuna, in Hawaiian, means “Big Chief” and Kupuna means “grandparent” or “wise elder”. The main focus of the contest is the Kahuna Kupuna divisions for men and women surfers who are 40 years of age and over, with separate age group sub-divisions for shortboard and longboard surfers. In addition, an Intergenerational Team Division and a Stand Up Paddle Board Division welcomes surfers of all ages.

Entry forms will be accepted on this website at www.pacificasenvironmentalfamily.org/kahunakupuna as well as at local Pacifica surf shops. The entry fee is the same as last year, $70 for all main Kupuna divisions and $30 for surfers under 40 who plan to be on an Intergenerational Team or compete in the all ages SUP division.

Net proceeds from the contest will support Pacifica’s Environmental Family, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that provides fiscal sponsorship services to grass roots environmental groups in Pacifica such as the Pacifica Beach Coalition and Pacifica Gardens.

Enjoy a day at the beach, celebrate the intergenerational nature of the sport of surfing and help raise some much needed funds for Pacifica’s Environmental Family! For more information about the contest, check PEF’s website periodically at www.pacificasenvironmentalfamily.org/kahunakupuna or contact Roy Earnest at kahunakupuna@comcast.net or 650-438-6378.
